Jordan's King Admits the Problem Inside Islam

In an interview with foreign newspapers including the Financial Times, King Abdullah of Jordan sais "There's a problem inside of Islam. The problem is not Jordan or the United States or Saudi Arabia."

FT reported on its site last Wednesday's attacks left Jordanians shocked and sparked protests even though many had predicted such an event given Jordan's support in the US-led war against Saddam Hussein in neighbouring Iraq, where insurgents carry out almost daily attacks.
First Middle Eastern leader admits that there is a problem in Islam. Middle Eastern counrtries like Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and Saudi Arabic were attacked by Islamists' terrorism but most defended Islam as saying this is not not the "true Islam". King Abullah, first brave Arab leader, to admit the problem. The language of King Abdullah indictates seriousness and firmness in tackling Jordan's crisis with terrorism. My heartfelt condolences for the vicitms of Jordan's attacks.

Well said. I hope this will encourage other Arabs to open their eyes and face reality, there's a huge problem they have been trying to deny, hoping it'll vanish one day!

Oh my God … you sound so happy as if the problem is in Islam only. There are no massive problems in Christianity and Jewish religion as well! I am afraid that is far from truth … if you look to the Christian and Jewish massacre through history you will find that it were far more. I am not here talking about regular organized state wars only. But movements like kulaks Klan against black people in US (proudly raising fire cross) up till the Orthodox massacre against Muslims in Serbia just few years ago.
Dear, there is a problems inside every religion not only Islam.. so don’t be that happy!

If there were far more Christian and Jewish massacres than Islamic ones, then you should have no trouble naming them.

Please begin.

If King Abdullah of Jordan actually said there was a problem in Islam only, then you should have no trouble showing us the word "Only" in his speech.

Please begin.

If the cross-burning of the Ku Klux Klan is just as deadly as throwing bombs into a wedding party, you should have no trouble naming 59 people who died because a burning cross was placed on their lawn.

Please begin.

Please begin, masry. Please, please begin.

Wow… You totally misunderstand me. Do you think I defend those extremists!!!! They are my personnel enemies. Even one of my relatives killed in a bomb attack during attending a wedding of her Christian friend in a church in Egypt back in seventies. But I am against all extremists from all realigns, and there are extremists from all religions. Sabra and shatila was a co massacre committed by both Christians and Jew extremists. (By the way I am not against Christianity or Jewish by any means)
My dear friend you can simply go back to history to see my point.
Our enemy is not AND SHOULD NOT BE Islam, Hindu, Christianity or any realign. Our enemy should be racism, fanatic and ready made ideas.
Please begin reading the human history and you will see that there is times when Islam was the major source of civilization, science, philosophy and there is also our horrible times for Islam. The problem was always in our minds. So please begin to read history and you will see everything clear..

not sure there were far more christian and jewish massacres.

islam had been a political entity from the beginning. Muhammad was a religions leader as well as a politician. Massacres spiced up the muslims life with the holy encouragement of the Kuran.

'till now those islamistes are just the heir to the ancient legacy of the Jihad to spread the sublime religion throughout the world.

Well, I understand that the media and current issues emphasize the rule of violence in Islam. And I am not ignoring this rule, on contrary it exists. Even from the early days there were a lot of confrontations and violence between important historic Islamic personals like “Ali” and “Eisha” for example. But that was part of what real Islam tried to clear; nobody in Islam is a holy or untouchable. However, I am not trying here to score preferring ability of one religion over another. I am only trying to say that in all religions there were people who committed crimes against others believe they are serving their own beliefs. There are various examples in history, remember what happened to both Muslims and Jews in Spain. By the way there is nothing at all in Kura’an that encourages massacres.
I believe Islam is suffering now its own middle ages and Islam needs its own “Martin Luther”. Meanwhile, it will be unfair to accuse Islam the way this blog tried to do out of ready made fanatic ideas more that trying to be objective.
There are problems in all ideas, philosophies and religions when handled by mankind, simply because people were created this way

I'm glad somebody said it! Too bad that he's only now realizing it.

Since 1790 free public education of children, males and females, has been a fundamental of democracy and economic growth. Part of that education is religous tolerance of all faiths.

If there is a problem with Islam, it revolves around these two basics.

If there are problems in any faith on this earth, they do not amount to persons who wrap explosives around their waists to blow up children school buses or hotels as in Sharm El-Sheikh, Taba or Jordan while believing they are going to heaven. NO I AGREE THERE IS A PROBLEM.

First path to solving problems is to admit that there is a problem.

"If there are problems in any faith on this earth, they do not amount to persons who wrap explosives around their waists"
The operative word here is "persons". There is a problem, not with the faith, but with the people who follow it. There may have been issues in the past, but they never amounted to the problems we are having now, and islam never had its reputation is has right now, and was not as misunderstood as it is now.
The problem lies in the people.

Superluli,

If there is a problem only with "persons", we might have found socialists, communists or capitalists blowing up themselves.

But everyone blows up himself is calling himself an Islamist or a muslim and he/she talks on behalf of Islam as if God faxed them to take away innocent people's lives.

We all might agree or disagree with King Abdullah, but his words are worth probing if they will get us out of the terrorism quagmire.

Being on the defensive is not the answer to the problem.

King Abdullah spoke about Islam , because he is a Muslim. Muslims have to correct problems within their religion just as Jews, Christians et al have to do so within their religions. I agree that every religion has problems, but that should not prevent one from examining the good and the bad of one's own faith!

You know, I talked about the same issue before. It may help explain the problems of Islam today:

I am very surprised to see that everybody is commenting on the piece of text as if it was a real thing. I have never read or heard that statement before. I do not recall King Abdullah saying that. Can you please give us the source? He cannot say it. Here is the whole news from FT and there is no indictation to what you are saying:

***King Abdullah of Jordan on Tuesday reiterated he would not let last week's suicide attacks that killed 57 people in Amman derail much-vaunted political and economic reforms or his pro-western policies.

In an interview with foreign newspapers including the Financial Times, he rejected accusations that he and his government had lost credibility or failed in the campaign to promote moderate Islam, saying the battle against extremism would take decades.****

This is a mere attack on Islam and misstatement.

I will not and don’t want to talk much, but King Abdullah really said what is mentioning in the blog. However, it is totally misleading to declare -as if it is the truth- that ‘everyone blows up himself is calling himself an Islamist or a muslim’
That is not true; who started blowing themselves was the Japanese pilots in World War II. Who started blowing themselves and killed civilians were the Tamil in sirilanka and not the Muslims. Plus even in Palestine many suicide bombers were not Islamist at all, on contrary some were communist.
Finally suicide bombing is totally against Islam, that is why I agree with Superluli that the problem is in persons not faith.
