Join Sandmonkey Retardedness Campaign Against the Danish Newspaper

I have been receiving email on ways to defend our prophet Mohamed against the sinful Danish newspaper and hundreds of petitions to sign that have no destinations.

Bravely, Sandmonkey took the Anti-Retardedness Mission. I have no answer why Muslims, whom I am counted on, take such issues fervently. Here is a background story from Sandmonkey on the whole insulting cartoons issue. The saga continues...

I wonder why Muslims do not get so fervent about a dying patient for the lack of medicine, about a corrupt government that is stealing all their money and leaving them in shit, about the right to enjoy life in freedom protected by the laws and legislation, about bribing police and traffic officers to cancel contraventions, about more than one million street children in Egypt abused by the people everyday, about injustice in general…the list so long to continue.

I wonder if the American Declaration of Independence, the French Revolution, or the South African 1994 elections that ended the era of Apartheid were insulted in Cartoons as sources for hatred, dictatorship and oppression (which is not the truth) what will be the reaction. The world takes pride in those achievements and they are protected by a human code for the same values they share.

The whole issue is not about freedom for expression, it is about what people take pride in. Muslims for the past few centuries cannot realize that did not bring any achievements to the humanity. And I am not talking about values only but I am talking about industries. For example, Germans, Italians, British and Americans are manufacturing the world’s best car brands. Muslims are using the American Google and Microsoft to run their anti-Denmark campaigns that are downloaded on Chinese and Malaysian computers with Indian IT expertise that go on the internet through Israeli lines. Apparently, fervent Muslims have nothing to take pride in for the time being. There are two other religions, Christianity and Judaism, the only two recognized by Muslims, and they are insulted everyday by some Muslims. Egyptian Copts were insulted hundreds of times in front of me on religious basis, where are the standards and the values that those fervent Muslims hold.

The Danish Newspaper apologized however; diplomatic relations with Denmark is on the way to severed by some Arab countries. I believe the UN Security Council will have to intervene in the near future upon calls from the Arab League, OIC and Arab countries to press the Danish Government to apologize…. You know what it is getting funny by the minute...

If some Muslims insult the adherents of other religions then it's absolutely wrong.
However I question Sandmonkey's logic.
Industry is not the hallmark of civilisations - values are.
And respect for the other is a value without which no human can become 'civilised'.

Anonymous, which values are you refering to? Freedom of speech, freedom of sexuality, freedom of religion?

The author is right! Nations are remembered for the contributions they make to the planet.

That is why I thank g-d everyday I am a Canadian. Without us, there would be no poutine :)

jordan,

Respect for the other was the main value I was referring to.

So nations are remembered for their contribution to the planet?

Does that include the North American genocide against the Native Americans?

The European / North American tragedy of TransAtlantic slavery which decimated tens of millions millions and subjugated tens of millions more?

Does American segregation and Dutch apartheid feature?

What about German Nazism and Russian Communism?

What about Swedish sterilisation of those with congenital abnormalities - as late as the 70's?

All countries and their peoples are part of the fabric of humanity.
All are precious and admirable, even the poorest of the poor, because of their 'humanity'.

Well put. It’s a common tactic by tyrannical regimes to misdirect the public’s attention on them by stirring up passions against someone else. What I find perplexing is that this can be so easily done in the Muslim world and over something so silly as a cartoon.

You're right - the whole issue is about diversion. Diversion from letting 350-some pilgrims die in Mecca; from internal issues such as a palenstine that may loose almost half their BNP which they get in support from Europe, because of their intollerant views.

This is tragic commic - I don't know if I should laugh or cry. "Give us respect or we'll kill you" is the threat. What logic; and what irony that the most spoken upon drawing actually depicts what's happening - a muslem with a bomb ready to blow ...

Freedom is absolute. It's not freedom of speach until you accept someone else's view that is bringing your blood to the boiling point.

From someone outside of the Arab pennensula, it sure do look like that region lives the world 400-500 years ago.

I do wish that Egypt and the eqyptians one day get to have the same personal freedom the western world enjoys. And the same for the rest of the world. However, freedom is not free; having to accept that you're not always right and that other people are free to ignore or ricudule you is very hard.

Unfortunately, those radical Islamists don't realise many facts about the so-called 'Western' civilisation!

This madness is all about 'business'. If Islam is a major economic power, the west would have surely tried to make solid relations with - and 'respect'. Some Egy bloggers compared between Islam and anti-Holocaust, being a taboo in the west. I said it's the west's political and economic interests that govern that.

One question, however, can we think of Pat Robertson's 'apology' for his 'provocative' remarks on Sharon as an intimidation to the "freedom of speech"?

There are freedom of speech among islamic community, and there are islamic countries such as mine that respect that freedom of speech, but somewhere along there, we drew the line, and when it comes to the holy prophet Muhammad's visualization, the freedom of speech should be drawn there. And in my country the muslims never freely insults other religions as so does the buddhist or christians or hidus etc. We live in multiracial and multi religion community in harmony and even we never speculate any issues such as this. Its amazing how pple from other countries, other religions knows what truly going on and easily speculate the issue and worst, knows exactly whats the islamic principal, muslims lived on. At least what I know muslims in my country are open minded, but we never expect other pple to go on insult our holy prophet in any ways even for the sake of fredom of speech, there are other ways to show individual freedom of speech. Many other ways and topics too. So many. Why choose religion. There are 'radical islamist', sad to say, and they deserve no repect and should be apprehend accordingly but how about the feelings of those muslims that I just mention earlier? what about the felings of muslims that never in their life ever imagine on freely insult other religions, not because we are acting nice in front of the world, its because its one of our principal, respect others.

hello, after spending half a day reading many articles about these cartoons, it seems to me as short-sightedness of the authors who did not even know they did something bad. I am only generally informed about largest world faiths and I would have probably done the same mistake not knowing the sesitivity of the theme. I don't know exactly the level of belief in Denmark but in Czech republic there is large portion of atheistic people (as in many post communist countries) who are non sensitive to religions. But many people here believes in some higher principle (to do some advocacy for them:) regarding the freedom of speech, it should be defended until it offends. like the rights in democracy. there are many areas where the rights of some group of people/individuals have higher priority then free speech (to treat racism and xenofoby, for example against homosexuals)

But TODAY still slavery in Sudan and Asrab militia TODAY in busenses of henocide against sudanises and Muslim terrosist today conducting of a “holly war”. You cannot use yesterday’s atrocities crated by others as alibi for today’s mayhem created by you.
P.S. I wrote this comment and then read mamapajamas comment that resonates mine , but I will post it anyway to voices better than one .:)

Hello enlightened people again! I know this will be off topic, but: Do you want to see the world as Chinese through Google do?
Type for example democracy and search. In the results go to address line and add &meta=cr%3DcountryCN to the end. Search again and SEE!

Why choose anything somebody would rather I not speak about? That is the very soul of freedom of speech: to be able to talk about what you want, not about what the powers that be think you should restrain yourself to talking about.

In this Supermarket economy we are living in, you make an impact through money and knowledge which leads to POWER, the Arab community have vast amount of strategic political power "which is needless to say; Oil" but due to the lack of knowledge and misguidence of their tyrannical regimes, Arabs are powerless. Someone here mentioned Values and nations remmembered through history by them. the world is not driven by values or spirituality "Saddly", the world is driven by Money, greed and Ego. Respect is a fading concept and it's been re-defined in the 21st century.

You know, you all talk here about some kind of freedom that must be given to Muslim world. This freedom you are referring to is the Western kind of freedom. It is not Muslim kind of freedom. The civilizations and thinking patterns are completely different, you cannot equalize them. And nobody from the western perspective can say, which one is better (and I don't mean that ancient code of Sunna is the paragon). You all here, writing in english, share totally different values, life and aspirations.

Being a Dane I find it scary that so many people find the intolerance against me and my country funny. It could have ended with real terror, bombs etc. from imbecil Muslims - then the laugh would have been on...whom?

At 5:43 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And I want to add: So many people have said "There is a freedom of speech but it doesn´t give you the right to offend other peoples´religious feelings" The same people don´t seem to lose any sleep pissing on my national feelings by burning my flag, calling my queen "Queen of cows" and destroy Danish embassies. It must be hypocracy on a high level.
