Clash of Civilizations in Egypt, Taliban is Coming!

Egypt’s Grand Mufti (the Sheikh who is responsible for releasing all fatwas and top Islamic jurist) Ali Gomaa issued a fatwa (religious opinion/edict) few days ago that forbids Egyptian Muslims from owning or displaying statues at their home because it is un-Islamic according to a “Hadith” (Prophet’s saying). The controversial Qatar-based Islamic scholar, Yussef al-Qaradawi joined the Mufti.

The Mufti who is appointed by the President represents the official line of the country and that tells you how secular we are evolving to be, a future Taliban state.

The Fatwa does not rule out:
  • The demolition of all pharaonic civilization heritages represented in the thousands of statues and Luxor and Aswan temples and others scattered all over the country. Those temples for those who did not visit them have huge statues for ancient Egyptian Kings and Queens.
  • Boycotting all sculpture artists and closing down arts colleges in the country for teaching students art. I will have to boycott all my friends and family members who took art as a profession.
  • Getting rid of any foreign heritage in the Egyptian houses. Many Egyptian families since more than two centuries still take pride in inheriting some pieces of art that came to Egypt from Europe. Those pieces are extremely precious and invaluable.
  • Treating us as insane retarded citizens with no brains who will take the first opportunity worship statues for anything in which we can undo everything Prophet Muhammed did when he forbid the people of Mecca from worshipping statues. Egyptians do not have the desert culture, we have the civilization of the Nile valley that inspired Egyptians with all forms of beauty along the centuries of history despite all difficulties.
I have read in history books, when the nature called a desert man and he wanted to clean himself he would rub with a stone or sand to clean themselves. Five thousands years ago, ancient Egyptians were dying their hair and using perfumes. Contexts should be in place.

Today, in the 21 century, the desert culture which had never had any appreciation to art or any form of art in the first place, except for poetry, still wants to impose its traditions on us.

According to the Fatwa:
It is ok now for my parents to ask my brothers to go for a jihad trip to Luxor or Aswan to sabotage and destroy the statues of the temples because they are against Islam. As a domestic creature being a woman who is not supposed to go out with men in their jihad trip, I will help mom in taking care of all the statues at home.

I need to say the “F” word here, excuse my language. Oh and by the way, I do not think Taliban is coming and I think it is already here.

Dear Freedom....
The Mofti is simply doing his job by issuing "Fatwas" according to the 2 foundation stones of Islam:Kitab Allah(The Quran)and Sunnat Rasouloh(The Hadith).
According to the Hadith(Al-Bukhari) the Prophet promised "Hell fire" for those who possessed statues ( you better warn your Mom, Iam Sure she got some)!
WHO IS TO BLAME THEN ?????
Regarding the "Call of Nature" and cleanning One'self with a "smooth" stone, it is infact a part of the corriculum of High Schools in the Kigdom of Saudi Arabia : "Adab Qada'a Al-Haja" You must see this very important related article by Dr. Ahmad Al-Baghdady in Alarabiya.net:
http://www.alarabiya.net/Articlep.aspx?P=21770
Remember! Modern bathrooms and toilette papers are invented by the Infidals.
Our Gradfathers and mothers in Egypt used bathrooms and perfumes 7000 years ago , God bless their souls!.
The Arabs are still on the look out for "smooth stones" in the 21st. Century .

Dont get carried away FFE. This fatwas have been there forever for personal choice. Howevre, they have never been enforced by any authority or otherwise. In addition, when the first muslims came to Egypt and all the comppanions and clerics (sunnis and Shiat) who lived and ruled Egypt all this time never touched these statutes how come some genius cleric now say you can demolish them. No one said that. It was all about personal possessions and it is a matter of personal choice at the end of the day. Taliban is not ruling Egypt and will never do. It just cannot happen. It does not fit in.

But what is to prevent some fanatic from following this cockamamie fatwa?? It's happened many times before in Egypt. Someone fatwa'd Farag Fouda and look what happened.

It is NOT a personal choice at all,if you are going to apply the islamic law "Sharia",you have to apply what "Allah" said in the Quran and what his "Prophet" said in the Sunna(Hadith), You can NOT pick and choose unless you have a Secular State.
The choice is between an Islamic Law or a Secular Law . Sam

LATEST NEWS
Egyptian Taleban has destroyed one giant sphinx carved centuries ago, pictures obtained by CNN show.

United Nations officials confirmed the claims made by the the Egyptian Taleban, which announced last month it would destroy images deemed "offensive to Islam." But no photographs of the demolition were available until Monday.

Museums and governments around the world had hoped to save the Sphinx, the earliest of which is thought to have been carved in the twenty first century B.C . At 45 meters (150 feet) length, the statue was the longest Guardian sphinx in the world.

Demolition of the sphinx was nearly finished Monday, Egyptian Taleban Information Minister Essam El Arian said.

"The destruction work is not as easy as people would think," he said. "You can't knock down the statue by dynamite or shelling.

A delegation from the 55-nation Organization of Islamic Conference came to cairo, the austere Islamic group's headquarters, on Sunday to urge the Egyptian Taleban to stop its campaign against the sphinx.

Taleban leaders refused.

"We would repeat to them as we have to other delegations that we are not going to back away from the edict, and that no statues in Egypt will be spared," El Arian said......

When do you expect this sad fake news will come true?

Here is what happened for real

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Afghanistan's Taleban has destroyed two giant Buddhas carved into a cliff centuries ago, pictures obtained by CNN show.
United Nations officials confirmed the claims made by the Taleban, which announced last month it would destroy images deemed "offensive to Islam." But no photographs of the demolition were available until Monday.
Museums and governments around the world had hoped to save the two Buddhas, the earliest of which is thought to have been carved into the sandstone cliffs of Bamiyan in the third century A.D. At 53 meters (175 feet) and 36 meters (120 feet), the statues were the tallest standing Buddhas in the world.
Demolition of the two towering images was nearly finished Monday, Taleban Information Minister Qudratullah Jamal said.
"The destruction work is not as easy as people would think," he said. "You can't knock down the statues by dynamite or shelling as both of them have been carved in a cliff. They are firmly attached to the mountain."
A delegation from the 55-nation Organization of Islamic Conference came to the Afghan town of Kandahar, the austere Islamic group's headquarters, on Sunday to urge the Taleban to stop its campaign against the relics. Taleban leaders refused.
"We would repeat to them as we have to other delegations that we are not going to back away from the edict, and that no statues in Afghanistan will be spared," Jamal said

For those who explain for the Mufti his strange decision:

First of all , I am not a studier of the Islamic sciences but I can tell that Islam is a religion of Common Sense and "Fetra", and I can not see why statutes would be such a harm.

Second: After 1500 of Islam , I do not think that our belief is fragile to be affected by statues that might memorize "Allat , Al3oza and Hobal". I think our Moslem conscience is much more developed now to be jeoparadized by by those stautes who only hold historical or artisitic value.

Third, from my limited readings, Fatwas can change between times and places according the necessity, so what might be Haram 200 years ago can be allowed later on and there are examples of this in the Fatwa of the big Four Imam's.

Fourth, We never heard the circumstances behind the allegdly Hadith in Bukhari, because when it comes to issuing a fatwa, circumstances matter, and in fact it might change the understanding of the whole situation.

Fifth, it is not clear from the fatwa , what is wrong, possessing statutes at home, or even having them as monuments.

Sixth, Why Amr Ibn El3as and the other moslem leaders who were living contemporary to Omar Ibn AlKHatab left statutes like sphinx, and other statutes everywhere along the arab nations and there is no recorded one incidence in history on an attempt to destroy them if in fact they were such a Wrong thing.

Finally, and most importantly, what is this all about, are we meant to be kept in controversy in non-sense issues that are of no values when we are in a time of history that is determintal to our nation, we gotta wake up a little and use our inner feelings to guide us as long as there is nothing to guide us in the correct path from what we are surrounded with.

Strange how they can see idolatry in a statue of historical importance alone, while at the same time, failing to see the idolatry in their own fatwa. Methinks they worship a god of their own making, and I long to hear the destruction of irreplaceable, historic artifacts described as unIslamic.

To Sam and all muslim haters out there: READ before you speak as if your hate is facts
"So who burned the Library of Alexandria? Plutarch blamed Julius Caesar.Edward Gibbon blamed Theophilus.According to Ibn al-Kifti's (History of the wise), whose story was repeated by Bishop Gregory Bar Hebraeus, the remaining books were destroyed by general Amrouh following orders of Caliph Umar (see Luciano Canfora "The vanished Library"). The collection may have ebbed and flowed as some documents were destroyed and others were added. For instance, Mark Antony was supposed to have given Cleopatra over 200,000 scrolls for the Library long after Julius Caesar is accused of burning it."

" Fatwa is a must "
What if different Moftis gave you contradicting fatwas about the sama topic ? which one will you follow ??
are you allowed to use your own logic and brain to make sense of things in life ??
are you allowed to search the books of "Sunna"for your self??
Have you read "Al-Bukhary" ? I think you should buy a copy !
If you can understand Math,Physics,Chemistry and Biology, I am sure you will understand "Al-Hadith" in Al-Bikhary.
Moftis are NOT Prophets , They make mistakes like all of us , Do not follow them blindly.

Sara,

If makes you lose nothing because you are using your brains my dear. You depend on clerics (men of the cloth) to think for you. You can also use them to go to the bathroom. They have bottom top/ top bottom use!

Good luck with your brains. Muslims have a long way until they will be able to use their brains NOT even to believe in brians.

Sam: My apologies for offending you. The place I referred to mentions the same facts that I came across before in an academic study that discussed this subject (and was full of citations too). From my recollection, the first writing that said the Amr Ibn El3as was involved in this was hundreds of years later and many European writers, for obvious reasons, at that time referred to. However, the burning was mentioned in other writings before Amr. The article I referred to is not discredited as you mentioned, it just needs specific citations. You could have easily checked one of the references mentioned; especially you have not mentioned any thing to support your contention. For e.g. check this http://www.ub.uni-konstanz.de/fi/ger/alexandria-aftermath.pdf
Moreover, Muslims were not known for burning libraries. You can check their war code dated as old as the Prophet time. On the contrary, Islamic civilization is credited for keeping and advancing the knowledge where it was dark elsewhere.
Once again, my sincere apologies to you, but hey you need to bear with me especially with my dark past:) Cheers,Anonymous 4:27 AM

Just out of curiosity, has anyone actually read the fatwa? The press is notorious for misrepresenting the opinions of the Mufti. For Arabic speakers Dar al-Ifta has an official website containing all of the Mufti's fatwas. Interesting is the one by Shaykh Gad al-Haqq where he discusses the fact that as Muslims it is obligatory for us to protect the heritage of this country. There is also a statement by the current Mufti responding to all of these claims. In the future it would be nice if people checked their facts before publishing their kneejerk reactions.

Well, I guess the comments of all the anonymous faithful say it all, doesn't it.

Islamism is a cult that runs on people having themselves brainwashed!

But don't worry. We christians were like that once too. We had clerics thinking for us. And in the fundamentalist south it's still that way.

Thank God for the freethinkers, who have forced us to critically examine our faith.

There were periods Islam had freethinkers too. It's time you guys stopped blaming the Christian West and the Jews for the fact the Islamic world stagnated and faded. You have only yourselves to blame.

Europe started to flourish when people started thinking for themselves in the Renaissance, the Reformation and the Enlightenment. It's time muslims started doing the same thing. I know there are a lot of people out there that don't really believe what the clerics say but are silent in public. That's bad. They can intimidate you only when everybody hides in the dark. When people stand together, they show their strength. Be free. Think for yourself. Prosper.
