Israel appoints first Arab Muslim minister

"Amir Peretz, the leader of Israel's Labour Party, has appointed the first Arab Muslim to the Israeli cabinet.

Raleb Majadele is to be the new science and technology minister."

I wonder if there will be an Egyptian Jewish Minister one day......

I am not bringing this news with the same mentality of some Muslims who are adopting the idea of the Islamic dominance over other religions or races. I know there are people who will be cheering the fact that he is a Muslim, believing that he is standing with the Islamic Califate project. I am bringing this piece of news, to show you that even in a Jewish State, minorities have rights to attain political posts. Majadele, a Knesset member , will be the second Israeli Arab to serve in the Cabinet in the history of the country. Israel is a 58 year old country....... Full Story

I really think its apples and oranges, Jews were once prominent in Egypt but the fact that there are no more jews in egypt takes jews out of the running for parliment. Christians, who are just as mistreated of a minority as anyone has ever been in Egypt, have had and do have roles in Government. Boutros Ghali who was PRIME MINISTER and Boutros Boutros Ghali who was once Deputy prime minister as recent as 1991, not to mention current members. So despite how pessimistic we are about Egypt, historically they have proven to be FAR MORE tolerant than Israel and their two muslim members of parliment.

Women in Egypt are treated as second class citizens. Their testimonies in courts are not taken as equallly as men. They are considered half citizens in court hearings and inheritance. They are not even minorites. They are HALF THE SOCIETY FOR GOD'S SAKE.....

Considering a woman to equal half a man is NOT the fault of the Egyptian Government , it is what the Holy Quran decreed

Murad Farag, a Egyptian lawyer who was Jewish, helped draft the Egyptian constitution.

In Iraq, several Jews once served as ministers, in the 1920s particularly. In Morocco, Jews have served as ceremonial ministers in recent history, including Serge Berdugo.

why is it that we have to have Anti-Arab attitudes to endorse freedom and democracy!
There have been Jews in the Arab political scene before the establishment of Israel. Israelis themselves say that the only people who have shown tolerance to Jews in the history were the Arabs and Muslims. The had many massacres in history but none in the Arab world.

Egypt has many JEWISH ministers before 1952, in case you don't know. Egypt's Economy Minister then was a Jewish Egyptian. in the 1930s, Egypt's Finance minister was a JEW, in case you don't know. Please take sometime to read about Egypt's history. Have you ever heard of Cecoril and Samaan? Benzion? All Egyptian Department Stores in Egypt. The names are Jewish, in case you don't know. So, please read some histroy before you try to say something BAD about EGYPT. The New Muslim Minister in Israel? Why don't you read about Arab Israelis who are not even 2nd class cits? Get a life. This is the world of PR and SPINNNNNN.

" minorities have rights to attain political "

Actually, this is the same in arab countries...even in Egypt.

Although, it is not enough representation.

But, even Israel which you are setting as an example for us, that one Arab is only ONE minister, and the arabs are almost a third of the popoluation (not to mention the 2 or 3 million palastinians)... so, that is no good either!

Since when was Israel fair ya 7aga! readin history will tell it all.

Because traditional Arab has never been tolerant towards Jews for 1000 years. If you leave Islam and convert to Jew, you get killed. Maimonedes himself was persecuted in Islamic Spain - he was forced on the pain of death to convert to Islam.

"There have been Jews in the Arab political scene before the establishment of Israel."

True but were those Jews equal to Muslims/Arabs ? The answer is clearly NO, as Islamic law treats People of Book (Jews and Christians) as third class citizens, while Muslim women are second class citizens.

"Israelis themselves say that the only people who have shown tolerance to Jews in the history were the Arabs and Muslims."

Which Israeli? Can you name them? I doubt you dare to name them! Any Israeli who says that is a BIG LIAR who is bribed by Islamists or Arabists to say so. For the 1,000 years of the Islamic Caliphate, both Jews and Christians were treated worse than modern America and modern Israel treat Muslims.

"The had many massacres in history but none in the Arab world."

That's a shameful lie. There were many massacres towards Christians and Jews in the Arab world. Have you forgotten Egypt was Christian-majority but it was forced converted on the pain of death. Christians who could not pay Jizyah and Kharaj had to either convert to Islam or die (read: massacred). So most chose to convert to Islam.
